Outdoor cameras are exposed to the elements and more vulnerable to being tampered with. As a result they are built with more durable materials such as metal. They may use a heavier gauge of metal or a housing to protect against easy removal and weather. Outdoor cameras are also referred to as “bullet” cameras due to their distinct style.
Indoor cameras utilize similar features as outdoor cameras. Indoor cameras are also referred to as “dome” cameras due to their dome style. They are usually smaller, lighter, and more attractive than outdoor (bullet) style. Dome cameras have a domed shaped cover which provides additional protection for the camera lens. The dome cover is typically tinted which keeps an onlooker from knowing where the lens is pointed. Dome cameras can be used outside also. Especially if protected by an awning or soffit.

IP vs ANALOG
What is all the chatter about regarding ANALOG vs IP (digital) cameras? A keep it simple description requires a step back in time. Motorola launched its first “brick” phone (DynaTAC) in the early 70’s. Almost 20 years later Smart phones were launched. A very simplistic way to compare ANALOG vs IP is to think ANALOG cell phones ( brick phone) vs SMART cell phones which are digital. The many benefits (streaming , email etc) of IP/Digital caused the ANALOG tech to become obsolete.
Specialty cameras
Some applications require special features. There is a wide variety of specialty cameras for distinct needs. We provide all the different versions whether it be NDAA, fisheye, thermal solar etc.
Does cable type matter?
Vendors may use different types of cable that attaches the camera to the recorder. Some efforts have been tried to use existing cable or old telephone wire existing in the building. This approach can lead to camera or cable failure. CAT5 and CAT5e cables are the industry standard. CAT5e has more stringent testing standards. CAT 6 is now being used in new installations which provides higher performance. NON SHIELDED vs SHIELDED cable. Quite simply SHIELDED provides further protection. This is especially important for running cables outdoors or inside walls.
